B.Sc Medical Laboratory Technology.

Medical Laboratory Technology is an integral part of medical care system. Clinical laboratory testing is crucial for detecting and diagnosing diseases. Medical laboratory personnel work behind the scenes, running the test to help the clinicians to diagnose illness and make decisions about treatment of patients. Appropriate laboratory facilities, proper guidance and technical training programmes has been advancing rapidly during the last few decades. Competent technicians with advanced scientific knowledge and excellent skills are needed in all branches of laboratory technology such as Hematology, Clinical pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cytology, Transfusion medicine etc.

BSc. Medical Laboratory technology course is recognised by Paramedical Council, Govt. of Kerala and is affiliated to University of Calicut. The duration of the course shall be Four academic years.

Career Prospects

A certified medical laboratory technologist may find a challenging career in public and private sector hospitals, clinical laboratories, blood donor centres. These days with the growth in the private sector there are so many Private hospitals, Nursing homes, Blood banks, Pathology laboratories etc. With adequate knowledge and experience medical lab technologists will be able to supervise or manage excellent positions in labs in hospitals. Technologists can also run private pathology labs. Teaching in Medical colleges and Paramedical Institutions is a very good proffession for them. Their services are required to support scientists or researchers in carrying out the reagents and equipments, assist the researches in the these fields to attend to analytical work and R & D work in drug labs and Pharmaceutical industries. A well experienced lab technologist have a number of opportunities in developed countries.

The candidates who have passed Higher secondary examination or examination recognised equivalent there to with 50% marks in Psysics, Chemistry and Biology.
